I have a love for all things crafty. My mom started teaching me how to make crafts at an early age. We were low income growing up, so she made many things to sell at craft shows for extra income. I tried following her lead by selling homemade bracelets, earrings, and other things on the school bus in elementary school. ๐ Now, my mom and I both sew on a regular basis because we really enjoy the hobby. I started quilting at the age of 16. I bought some pre-cut squares from Benjamin Franklin Crafts and made a patchwork throw. It is really ugly but I keep it around to remind me of where I started. Today, I love using pre-cut fabrics as a way to enjoy all of the choices in a fabric line. Designers have really come a long wayโand so have I.
After quitting a stressful job in November 2012, I have become a stay at home mom and wife. It was at that time that I stopped being a quilter and became a seamstress. I still enjoy quilting, but I like learning how to make other things as well: purses, baby accessories, aprons, mug rugs, etc. I love to go into my sewing room and make beautiful things in my free time. It truly is my happy place!
My mom was my sewing buddy in Illinois, but we moved away to Utah in May 2013. We now live close to my sister in laws who are also crafty. We love getting together and making things for the family blog Simply Notable. I love to share with them my love for quilting, and they are able to share their talents with me.
Now that my son is six, he has taken an interest in using a sewing machine. I am sure that I will enjoy teaching him… just as my mom did when I was six. ๐
