Kid Table Redo with Laminated Cotton

My roll of laminated cotton has been staring at me from the corner of my sewing room for months. It was time for me to put it to work.

My big project for the yardage was to redo my son’s play table and chairs. To be frank, I have seen Disney Cars around my house for long enough. My son just wasn’t ready to give up his craft table. Rather than selling the table or handing it down, I agreed we could keep it IF it had a more gender neutral (and Disney free) print.

Taking it apart was a breeze. I just used a Phillips head screwdriver.

I used each piece as a template for how much laminated cotton to cut. My laminated cotton is from Riley Blake, so it measures about 41” wide. I needed one yard for this project. I rough cut the pieces, working from largest to smallest. I left about 1.5″ extra fabric all the way around each piece. I used my staple gun to tack the fabric down over the existing vinyl.

The only part I found a little tricky was stapling the fabric to the curved pieces of the chair top. I needed to pull it tight to eliminate bunching on the front. Also, I could not hammer the staples in as far on these two pieces because it would puncture the front of the fabric. (The staples on the chair bottoms and table were able to be hammered in completely.) The staples sticking out did not matter once I screwed the chair top back onto the frame.

With the remaining laminated cotton from the one yard I was able to make one  reusable sandwich bags using my sister in law’s tutorial. Due to the size of my scrap, I cut the fabric 7.5″x12.5″. I added some cute Pac Man fabric and voila!

Total cost of my table makeover and sandwich bag: less than $20. Being one step closer to Disney Cars free home: priceless!
